AI Limits is a local desktop and terminal tool that shows usage and limit data for supported AI providers, including Codex, Claude, and Cursor. It works without an account or external proxy service: data stays on your computer, and several local checks with fallback paths help reduce guesswork.

What it already does

  • The app is free, lightweight, and minimal: only what is needed, right away
  • Shows current limits and usage information
  • Includes a macOS app and a terminal UI
  • Reads data from local files and/or CLI
  • Uses fallback checks when another data source is more reliable at the moment
  • Data stays on your computer and is not sent anywhere
  • Supports macOS notifications
  • The terminal can show raw and structured data for integrations or forks
  • The source code is open, under the MIT license

Current limitations

  • macOS is the main ready-to-use path right now
  • There is no macOS DMG installer yet; releases are provided as an app
  • macOS may warn that the app was downloaded from the internet
  • Windows and Linux apps are already available, but are less polished than macOS
